During my short stopover in Doha, I stayed at the renowned Hyatt Regency Oryx. Not to be confused with the non-oryx variety a few miles away. I arrived in the dead of night, to in-hotel luggage scans and really nothing else around. It was great.

I arrived via an Al Maha airport transfer straight from the airport. It was about 20ish minutes away in a region called Al Hilal East, About 1.5 miles (2.41 kilometers) away from the National museum of Qatar. Right outside the hotel is what seems to be a Qatar Airways office and a subway station. I walked around a bit, but the heat won out, and I had to retreat indoors.

Fun Fact: The hours of operation for many businesses here are later than you are probably used to, as not many people go out while the sun is beating down on them.

The Room

The room was a nice size. We were upgraded to a clubroom as I used a clubroom upgrade. I enjoyed the dedicate space to eat, rest, and work.

The bed is a bit firm, but the pillows are plush, and I was able to get adequate rest; especially after the banging room service. I got a king bed, non-smoking room, and it was that, no surprises. The room was clean, and it had a fantastic view of outside, if you are into that sort of thing.

As far as the entertainment, it was also great. The room came with a large 55 in 4k TV. It had chrome-cast built in, and you could stream whatever you wanted. I didn’t use it, but it was a delightful to have.

The bathroom was where this room really started to shine. A nice walk in shower with rainfall head. It had good pressure, and instant heat. No waiting 1 or 2 minutes while it heats up. It came with a toilet, with bidet attachment, and a dedicated bidet, European style. I wish the water was heated like Japanese toto’s or even the Kohler toilet we have at home, but it was better than not having a bidet.

Service

The service was good. People loaded and unloaded our bags into our room. Room service was prompt and freshly made (and tasted so exquisite too!), and when it came to check in, and out they were very flexible.

Lounge
Lounge

The hotel has two lounges, the Sky lounge on the ground floor, and the club lounge on the 1st floor. The ground floor had all the architectural might, but the 1st floor had all the restaurants. Both were fun to enjoy.

Breakfast

I had never thought I’d one day be enjoying a Qatari breakfast in a nice hotel in Doha, but here I am eating fried rice, some kind of lamb spaghetti meat, and a lamb pizza? I couldn’t even tell you what it was called, or what was in it. But it was good!

Juice Bar

That wasn’t all there was to this breakfast, which was in a dedicated restaurant outside the club. There were numerous drinks, from teas to coffee and fresh squeezed juice.

Cold stuffs

There was also a smoothie bar. I didn’t eat or drink any of it, but it looked good. If they had parfaits, I would have been all over it.

Hot foods
Hot foods

The hot foods consisted of soups, porridges, hummus, and lamb. Lots of lamb. I enjoyed the taste, of the little I ate. I mostly abstained due to me not liking egg all that much.

Overall Score

This hotel has a-lot going for it. It also has still competition. In this small city of Doha is four seasons, Park Hyatt, and Ritz-Carlton. But even amongst all that, I don’t dislike this place. The location in the business district is excellent. And If you need a place to stay for a long layover, you could find a better accommodation. I will give this place:
